The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya officially commenced its academic year for international scholars with the grand Inauguration Ceremony of the Diploma in Buddhist Studies (35th Batch). The event, held at the Faculty of Humanities Boardroom, was attended by university administrative heads, distinguished academic staff members of the university, non-academic staff, and an enthusiastic cohort of newly enrolled international students.

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya recently held a prestigious felicitation ceremony to honor the lifetime achievements of Emeritus Professor Tilak Kariyawasam.

The ceremony of assuming duties of the newly appointed Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Senior Lecturer Ven. Deniyaye Paññāloka Thera was held on 12 March, 2026 (at 10:00 AM) at the department premises. 

Senior Professor Venerable Makuruppe Dhammananda Nayaka Thera, who rendered distinguished service as the Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya, served in that position for six years from 2020 until 11 March 2026. 

Venerable Makuruppe Dhammananda Thera, Senior Professor in the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya was awarded the "Foreign Relations Excellence in Humanities Award" by the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya in recognition. 

විශ්‍රාමික මහාචාර්ය පුජ්‍ය දේවාලේගම මේධානන්ද හිමි යනු කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යයනාංශයේ කීර්තිමත් මහාචාර්යවරයෙක් වන අතර විද්‍යාර්ථින් අතරද ඉතාමත් ජනප්‍රිය උන්වහන්සේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජනමාධ්‍ය ක්ෂේත්‍රය තුලද කැපී පෙනෙන චරිතයක් විය.

කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යයන අංශය මගින් පවත්වනු ලබන බෞද්ධ මනෝවිද්‍යාව හා උපදේශනය පිළිබඳ ඩිප්ලෝමා පාඨමාලාවේ 08 වන කණ්ඩායම සඳහා සමාරම්භක උළෙල මානවශාස්ත්‍ර පීඨයේ හිටපු පීඨාධිපති ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය පැට්‍රික් රත්නායක මැතිතුමන්ගේ ප්‍රධානත්‍වයෙන් සමාජීයවිද්‍යාපීඨ ශ්‍රවණාගාරයේදී සම්භාවනීය අයුරින් 2026-01-18 දින උදෑසන 09.00 සිට පැවැත්විණි. 

Her Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Sri Lanka, paid a visit to the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya to convey her heartfelt appreciation for the financial assistance extended by the University community during the recent disaster in Myanmar. 

බෞද්ධ මනෝවිද්‍යාව හා උපදේශනය පිළිබඳ ඩිප්ලෝමා පාඨමාලාවේ 07 වන කණ්ඩායමේ විද්‍යාර්ථීන්ගේ පර්යේෂණ හා උපදේශන කුසලතා වර්ධනය කිරීමේ අරමුණින් මුල්ලේරියාව ජාතික මානසික සෞඛ්‍ය විද්‍යායතනයේ විශේෂ වැඩමුළුවක් 2025/06/22 දින සාර්ථකව පැවැත්වීණි. 

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, proudly held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Diploma in Buddhist Studies for International Students - 34th Batch at the Faculty Board Room.  

බෞද්ධ මනෝවිද්‍යාව හා උපදේශනය පිළිබඳ ඩිප්ලෝමා පාඨමාලාවේ 07 වන කණ්ඩායමේ විද්‍යාර්ථීන්ගේ පර්යේෂණ කුසලතාව වර්ධනය කිරීමේ අරමුණින් කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ මානවශාස්ත්‍ර පීඨයේ කොටහේනේ ශ්‍රී ප්‍රඥාකීර්ති අනුස්මරණ සම්මන්ත්‍රණ ශාලාවේදී 2025/06/01 දින පැවැති වැඩමුළුව සාර්ථකව නිමවිය. මෙහිදී සම්පත් දායකත්වය ලබාදෙමින් වැඩමුළුව සිදුකරන ලද්දේ ආරාධිත කථිකාචාර්ය ජාතික අන්තරායකර ඖෂධ පාලක මණ්ඩලයේ සේවයේ නියුතු දිලිණි මදුෂානි මහත්මිය විසිනි. 

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of the University of Kelaniya organized a significant donation initiative to support the people of Myanmar who were recently displaced by a devastating earthquake. Through the collective efforts of academic, non-academic staff and students, the donations were raised and officially handed over to Her Excellency Marlar Than Htaik, Ambassador of Myanmar. 

A preliminary agreement to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding between the Dhammachai Educational Institute in Thailand and the University of Kelaniya was signed on 2025.03.24 in Thailand under the leadership of Dr. Ven. Pongsak Thaniyo and Senior Professor Ven. Makuruppe Dhammananda Thero.

This tea reception was organized by the students who pursued the Special Degree in Pali Language, Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Psychology, and Buddhist Culture under the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya during the 2019/20 academic year. 

කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යයන අංශයේ බෞද්ධ සංස්කෘතිය විෂය විශේෂවේදී පළමු වසර විද්‍යාර්ථින් 2025.03.07 වන දින කොළඹ ජාතික කෞතුකාගාරයේ ක්ෂේත්‍ර අධ්‍යයන වැඩසටහනකට සම්බන්ධ විය.

The second lecture of the 'PARIYESANA' academic discussion and invited lecture series, organized monthly by the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya, was held on the 21st at the Faculty of Humanities auditorium (K14). 

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya held the opening ceremony for the 14th batch of the Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies program for the 2025/2027 academic year on January 25, 2025.  

The annual Industry Tour for foreign students, organized by the Department of Pali & Buddhist Studies, University of Kelaniya, successfully came to a close on January 16 and 18, 2025.  

කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යයන අංශය මගින් පවත්වනු ලබන බෞද්ධ මනෝවිද්‍යාව හා උපදේශනය පිළිබඳ ඩිප්ලෝමා පාඨමාලාවේ සාර්ථක 07 වන කණ්ඩායම සඳහා සමාරම්භක උළෙල මානවශාස්ත්‍ර පීඨයේ පීඨාධිපති ආචාර්ය සුදත් සෙනරත් මැතිතුමන්ගේ ප්‍රධානත්‍වයෙන් මානවශාස්ත්‍ර පීඨ කොටහේනේ ශ්‍රී ප්‍රඥාකීර්ති නාහිමි අනුස්මරණ සම්මන්ත්‍රණ ශාලාවේදී අති උත්කර්ෂවත් අයුරින් 2025-01-12 දින උදෑසන 10.00 සිට පැවැත්විණි. 

The Excellence in Humanities Awards 2024 ceremony, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Humanities, took place on the 20th of December 2024, at the Ven. Prof. Kotahene Sri Pragnakeerthi Thero Memorial Hall (K14) Auditorium. 

A delegation of over 50 with the chief incumbent of Hualing and Lingjiu temples in China, under the coordination of foreign nuns studying at the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of the University of Kelaniya, visited the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of the University of Kelaniya on 06.12.2024.

කැලණිය විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය පාලි හා බෞද්ධ අධ්‍යයනාංශයේ පාලි, බෞද්ධ දර්ශනය හා බෞද්ධ මනෝවිද්‍යාව යන විෂයයන්හි ගෞරව ශාස්ත්‍රවේදී උපාධිය හදාරනු ලබන විද්‍යාර්ථින්ගේ වාර්ෂික අධ්‍යයන චාරිකාව අංශ ප්‍රධාන ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ මහාචාර්ය පූජ්‍ය මකුරුප්පේ ධම්මානන්ද ස්වාමීන් වහන්සේගේ  අනුශාසනා පරිදි ආචාර්ය අමිල කලුආරච්චි මහතාගේ සම්බන්ධීකරණය යටතේ 2024 ඔක්තෝබර්  මස 24 සහ 25 යන දෙදින තුළ සබරගමු මහසමන් දේවාලය ඇතුළුව සබරගමුව පළාත අරමුණු කොට ගෙන ක්‍රියාත්මක විය.
